Darrell's Comments
Recorded in the spring and summer and released in the fall of ‘93, NO TURNING
BACK marked a dramatic step up in production quality, boasting eight original
songs, a new producer in the person of Barry Piacente, and the first use
of live instruments in the mix.
This album remains very special to me, even though it’s actually sold less
than any of the other projects released. I tried different approaches with
the songs, from upbeat inspirational on "Sing Out", to the black
gospel tinged "Stand On The Rock" (an ill-advised attempt from
me vocally if there ever was one!). Personal faves on this project include
"Answer The Call" (which became my first radio single), "No
Turning Back" (a bold statement of my faith), and "What Kind Of
Man" (probably my favorite song of all I’ve written, it remains a concert
staple to this day, and I never get tired of performing it).
NO TURNING BACK, in retrospect, was a thematic album, with every song echoing
the same basic theme of no holds barred, no compromise Christianity. Due
to the quality of the production, the concerts took a big step up in the
energy level, giving me a great tool to continue to proclaim God’s word.
