Darrell's Comments
BIG TIME was a landmark project for me. Produced again by Barry Piacente,
it was the first to feature totally live instrumentation (as opposed to
NO TURNING BACK, where live instruments were added to computer sequenced
tracks), as well as the first of my projects to be released on CD.
The title track was fun, and quickly became an audience participation piece
(they only had to remember two words), focusing on the world’s idea of success
vs. God’s. Making the BIG TIME God’s way was essentially the focus of the
whole album. Other highlights included the Eagles-ish "You Are Faithful",
"Be Still And Know" (a song I really wrote for myself to hear
and take heed of), the remake of "Daddy’s Little Girl", "I
Found A Love" (simply because I had folks from my church choir doing
the BGVs), and also "From A Broken Heart" (which is almost a rock
song, and just plain fun!). All in all, BIG TIME was an attempt to break
away from "issue-oriented" songs, and just be a celebration.
Like NO TURNING BACK, this was a thematic project, with each song echoing
themes espoused in the title track. The challenge to measure one’s success
by God’s standards as opposed to man’s was accepted well in concerts throughout
the Southeast during 1995-1996.
